did you know...

For every tonne of nappy waste recycled, 400kg of wood, 145 cubic metres of natural gas and 8,700 cubic metres of water is saved.

the nappy journey...

Armed with your Green Bottoms ammunition: free nappy sacks, tiger bags and recycling bin, you are ready to go into battle and start combating the negative impact nappies are having on the environment!

It all starts in such a simple way, when you put each nappy into your Green Bottoms bin instead of your household waste. Then, on your Green Bottoms collection day, you put your nappies out for collection on the kerbside, from where they make the small journey to your local Green Bottoms depot, where they join everyone else’s, and together they go off to the recycling plant.

Once they get to the plant, they are shredded and processed to separate the plastic fibres and polymers from the actual waste and the excess water, which is filtered before re-joining the process and helping to clean the separated plastic components.

Once cleaned, the plastic components, by now in pellet form, can then be re-used in a wide variety of applications, from plastic decking to bicycle helmets!
